How quickly could your business get back on its feet if a tornado, flood, fire, or other disaster struck your community? No matter how unlikely it seems, disasters do happen. True preparedness means being ready for any emergency, whether that be flooding, a utility outage, or some kind of man-made disaster. After all, if you want to be the best in your marketplace, it only makes sense to prepare for the worst.
Here are some tips to help you be prepared:
- Designate an out-of-town phone number where employees can leave an “I’m okay” message in a catastrophic disaster.
- Have emergency preparedness materials such as evacuation routes and shelter-in-place areas prominently displayed.
- Ensure you have established staff members who are responsible for communicating regularly to employees in the event of an emergency.
- Talk to your neighbors about how you can work together during an emergency.
- Find out if anyone has any specialized equipment – like a generator – or medical knowledge/first aid training.
Don’t wait until it is too late – prepare now for what you can’t prevent.
