I’m a classic car enthusiast. In particular, I love Ford Mustangs… I love them so much that in my life I’ve owned 24 of them! I purchased my first classic car when I was 15 years old, and restored it, and when I finally got my driver’s license, I started a Mustang Club in my hometown in Utah back in 1979 (it’s still around today!).
I can still remember that first car: it was a 1967 convertible Mustang in “Springtime Yellow”… you better believe I turned a lot of heads at my high school with it! I took that car across the country to car shows, and eventually won 3rd place in my class in Oklahoma City.
You might not think of an insurance agent as the kind of guy who loves classic cars, but I certainly do. I’ve always had a passion for muscle cars, sports cars, and classic cars… and I know how hard it can be to find insurance for them. That’s part of why my insurance agency offers classic car coverage: not many insurance agencies in Colorado do: it’s hard to understand, and you’ve got to know cars in order to get the right coverage.
I’m proud to say that my office can underwrite policies for all kinds of cars that other agencies might not be able to. We offer insurance coverage for the following kinds of cars:
- antique cars
- replicas
- muscle cars
- classic cars
- custom cars
- woodys
- exotics
- hot rods
- kit cars
- foreign cars (Jaguars, Ferraris, Lamborghini, Bugattis, etc)
Our special car insurance policies are written by a company that’s been around for more than 75 years, and they specialize in classic car insurance. There are many reasons I offer this coverage. For example, did you know that with some auto insurers, you’re required to physically be with your car continually in order for it to be covered? What does this mean to you? If you’re taking your classic car to a car show, you can’t leave it unattended at all. So let’s say you’re headed to the Colorado Car Show in Denver, and you stop by a 7-11 on the way there to use the bathroom and grab a coke. If you walk away from your car and someone else accidentally backs into your $90k car and smashes the back end, some insurers won’t cover it because you weren’t with the car when the incident happens. I’m happy to report the the policies I write don’t have this exclusion: you can leave your car and use the bathroom without worry.
Similarly, some classic car policies state that only the owner can drive the cover in order for it to be covered. So if you’re done with a car show and want to load your hot rod onto your trailer, and you tell a buddy “Can you pull the car around by the trailer?” — again, if there’s a problem and something bad happens, you might not be covered because you’re the only one who can drive it. With the policies my agency offers, you can have friends or family members drive the car and you’re still covered. This is important, because I want to make sure that if you have a car, you don’t have to worry about little details like this that could exclude you from covering damage and liability.
