We have been enjoying a beautiful fall here in Colorado, but we know that the weather can change in an instant. That’s part of what makes being a Coloradan so exciting; our beloved state keeps us on our toes!
Take advantage of the nice weather we have this weekend to get your home ready to cozy in for the winter. Here are some tips on getting your home ready for winter.
- Disconnect your hoses and blow out your sprinklers
- I cannot tell you how many clients forget to do this before the temperature drops and any type of water damage to your home can be catastrophic
- Check out the video above we filmed a while ago about the importance of this step
- Clean out your gutters
- Be sure to remove all the fall leaves and debris from your gutters. We want to avoid the gutters overflowing with water down the side of your home
- Test your carbon dioxide and smoke detectors
- It might be time to replace those batteries
- Check for drafts
- You may need to recaulk your windows where it is cracking
- Scrape off the cracked paint or caulk and replace
- Keep a minimum of 65 degrees standard for heating the home
- We want to avoid the pipes inside the walls from freezing
- Check your trees for dead branches
- With the extra weight of snow, the branches could break off and damage your car or home
